Holiday Open House • Saturday, December 6, 2014

Come and enjoy the seasonal ambience of a Victorian Christmas at the historic National Landmark, John Greenleaf Whittier Home Museum at 86 Friend St in Amesbury from 3-5 p.m.

This annual event is offered free to members of the community each year and includes an open Gift Shop offering unique gifts of reading for all ages. In addition, the gifts are wrapped at no additional cost.

“This year the entire property was painted and shutters replaced at a cost of more than $20,000. Updating alarm and fire systems, seeking alternative ways to heat the home (kept at bare minimum during the winter months), and seeking much needed personnel for the office and Collections department are all part of the costs associated with keeping this space an active educational site fostering the legacy and history of the famed Quaker poet, abolitionist, “ says Cynthia Costello, President of the WHA. The recently received prestigious Yankee Quill Award plaque will proudly be on display as well. A giving tree will offer an opportunity for visitors to take a star that lists some of the wish list of WHA.

The Hospitality Committee that will offer a variety of seasonal sweets, cheeses, fruits, and a traditional Christmas cake donated by Rita Mullis. Hot mulled cider and eggnog punch bowls will decorate the fanciful table display.

In the background there will be seasonal music played by Mrs. Costello, who invites people to join in on a carol or two.
