ks15651The Whittier Home Museum at 86 Friend Street, Amesbury, welcomes spring with its Annual Plant, Book and Bake Sale on Saturday, May 18th from 9:00 am –noon (rain date Sunday May 19). Cynthia Costello, President of WHA, welcomes one and all to enjoy the beauty of the poet’s Victorian garden while enjoying homemade pastries and reviewing cook and gardening books.

“Our plant sale will include plants from the Whittier Home members’ gardens, as well as Whittier’s garden and include many unique species that you won’t be able to purchase in a garden shop including prize irises, hosta as well as hybrids and other “discoveries” and herbs. All plants are indigenous to New England soil,” say co chairs Sue Curry of Merrimac, and Annie Tunstall, both expert gardeners. They say: ”We’ll be on hand to give advice on how to transfer and take care of the plants.” Expect a varied collection of plantings and garden supplies, including vases, tools, pots and garden décor.

Rita Mullis and Cynthia Costello are co-chairs of the Whittier Garden Cafe, and invite you to enjoy a cup of coffee or a cold drink, along with a mouth-watering choice of home baked sweets and breads made by Whittier Home members. The ladies encourage patrons to purchase extra baked goods, including pies to take home. Come early for the best selection.

Donations of any of the above items are appreciated and can be left at the Whittier home on Friday, morning, May 17 , from 9-12, or call 978-388-1337 for pickup arrangements. Empty starter pots are available on back porch of home.
